Modelling of non-linear components for optoelectronics

Principal Investigator: Professor T M Benson

Starts: 1 April 2005
Ends: 31 March 2007

Royal Society Joint Project with Professor Elena Romanova, Saratov State University, Russia

Scientific aims:
1. Further elaboration of modelling principles of non-linear phenomena in dielectric waveguides and periodic guiding structures (slow-wave devices).
2. Systematic investigation of light beam propagation in non-linear waveguides with discontinuities using general theoretical methods and time domain numerical models developed at Nottingham.
3. Development of reliable non-linear implementations of numerical and semi-analytical methods; extension of these to the modelling of microsize to nanosize guiding structures.
4 Comparison of the results obtained when modelling the spatial and spatiotemporal dynamics of light beams in non-linear waveguides with and without discontinuities with different simulation tools
5. Practical recommendations on photonic device designs.
