Optical Waveguide Theory and Numerical Modelling

Call for Papers

Optical waveguides and resonant cavities are important components for manipulating and processing light over short distances. Novel forms of waveguiding including photonic crystal waveguides, surface plasmon waveguides, single and coupled resonant cavities have shown the potential for low loss guiding, increased sensitivity and slow light phenomena.

Optical Waveguide Theory and Numerical Modelling address the theoretical appreciation and modelling of guided optical waves and related effects in micro- and nanostructures. This special issue will include papers presented at the International Workshop on Optical Waveguide Theory and Numerical Modelling in Cambridge 2010, but is also open to new contributions.

Topics include but are not limited to advances in the theory and modelling of:

• Waveguides, resonant cavities, quantum effects
• Photonic Crystals
• Photonic Nanostructures and Metamaterials
• Plasmonics
• Nonlinear processes in optical waveguides and resonant cavities.
• Modal and beam propagation methods.
• Time-domain techniques for photonic devices.
