Transport

Greener journeys

We actively encourage staff and students to use greener transport options and limit the number of cars on campus. Of course, we understand that for some members of staff, driving is the only viable option. That’s why we’ve set up one of the city’s biggest car-sharing schemes, as well as investing heavily in cycling and footpaths.

What the University is doing

  • Transporting 500,000 passengers a year on our free intercampus bus service. This is one of the few schemes of its kind at any UK university
  • Running a car-share scheme for University staff
  • Running a U Cycle project with over 200 student hire bikes, and a number of events and activities
  • Giving staff the chance to buy cycles through payroll and save hundreds of pounds
  • Investing in cycle paths and facilities across our campuses

What you can do

  • Cycle. It’s good for your health, your pocket and the environment - just 1 day a week makes a difference. Plus, all our campuses have plenty of places to lock up your bike and showers to freshen up. Read about U Cycle and other cycling schemes
  • Staff can save money and reduce their carbon footprint by car sharing. You can sign up here www.nottingham.ac.uk/carshare
  • Travelling between campuses? Hop on our free, regular bus!
  • Reduce the need to travel. Make use of video conferencing facilities and Skype. Read more...
