Congratulations to Geo-Agenda

Well done to Filipe Sousa & Luis Gomes who took home thespecial topic prize for the ESNC University Challenge- for the second year in arow! Paul Bhatia the General Manager of GRACE and Co-ordinator of the GENIUSproject awarded the prize at the prestigious awards ceremony held in Munich onthe 5th of November.

The winning idea Geo-Agenda was awarded 1st placeout of a total of 68 ideas in this year’s competition. The duo from Outcapsabased in Oporto, Portugal won a €1000 cash prize and will qualify for up to€8000 business support from Awapatent and GRACE.

The winning idea ffers a new agenda concept that, based onthe perception of the environment, can remind a person what needs to be done inthe right time and place. GeoAgenda combines GNSS data and POI databaseinformation to provide reminders and warnings about what needs to be done whenand where. For instance, if you need to buy milk, how can you set a reminder toalert you at the right moment? GeoAgenda will connect the act of purchasingmilk with supermarkets and display a corresponding reminder to the user when heor she is near a supermarket location. GeoAgenda can also deal with meetingsby, for example, alerting the participants to the delays others may be facing.Using GNSS signals and the Google Maps API, GeoAgenda can calculate the delaysof each person (e.g. resulting from traffic jams) and allow the others tobetter manage their waiting time.

1 in 6 entrants of the ESNC this chose the universitychallenge special topic prize this year out of a total choice of 7 specialtopics. 1 in 4 of the entrants originated from either a university or researchcentre demonstrating the importance of universities contribution to the GNSS ideas/applications& new business agenda.
