Training and development

In the current climate, postgraduates must be able to demonstrate, in addition to effective research skills, good generic or transferable skills. Having appropriate qualifications is important, but employers are also looking for other key core competencies and, if individuals possess these, then their employability potential can be greatly enhanced.

Published by Vitae, the Researcher Development Framework (RDF) describes the knowledge, behaviours and attitudes of researchers and encourages them to aspire to excellence through achieving higher levels of development. It has been designed for researchers within higher education to evaluate and plan their own personal, professional and career development.

Have a look at the RDF, above, and take a moment to reflect on it in relation to your own work and study. The JGC and Graduate School are here to ensure that these important areas become part of your personal and professional development.

The Graduate School runs a programme of training events to support these areas and the JGC works to complement this central programme more locally and within your specific discipline.

Visit the Jubilee Graduate Centres events and seminars pages or take a look at the Graduate School's Central Short Courses website to find out more.

Don't forget to regularly check your university email account as we advertise upcoming events in our email bulletins.
