Rebecca Dowsett explains her role;
It is my job to improve the employability of postgraduates. I do this by providing training sessions on CV writing and interview techniques among other activities.
What some members have to say about the SBGC;
I have enjoyed being a member of the society both as a Masters and a PhD student. It is a friendly area to relax, and there is lots going on, useful courses, meetings and parties. I try not to miss any of them!
Fereshteh Malekpoor-Mansoorkhani PhD
It is too easy for PhDs and MScs to feel isolated in a country campus such as this. One of the main aims of the SBGC is to encourage social interaction between postgrads. I myself have made many friends as a result of being involved with the SBGC and have enjoyed seeing others do the same.
Emily Boothroyd PhD
The SBGC has allowed me to meet other postgrads from a variety of departments and socialise regularly at lunch time over a coffee and cake. Being on the user committee also allowed to me to get involved with the events first hand. The SBGC has helped me make several friends and provided many good memories, especially the Christmas parties, which should not be missed!! I have also been to the career events that are regularly run.
Saoirse Tracy PhD
The SBGC and its User Committee, have helped me to develop the needed transferable skills for the challenging life after school, and has also provided me with the missing link between academic life and life outside the academia.
Daniel Dzidzienyo PhD
