BSc (Hons) Mental Health and Social Care (top up) degree   

There are 4 different level 3 pathways:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Combined Studies (Mental Health and Social Care)
  • Mental Health Services for Older People
  • Psychosocial Practice

About the programme

The programme is available to all mental health and social care professionals in order to enhance the delivery of evidence based patient/client care.
 
It provides the opportunity to develop specialist and generic mental health and social care knowledge that underpins decision-making within a contemporary, diverse and dynamic mental health and social care system.

The BSc (Hons) Mental Health and Social Care pathways are currently under consideration and therefore the selection of available modules may change. 

Modules

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Modules

  • Evidence Based Practice* (30 credits)
  • Module Options: Select 90 credits
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - Mindfulness Based Approaches* (30 credits)
  • Introduction to Mindfulness Based Therapeutic Approaches* (30 credits)
  • Recovery Values and Principles* (30 credits)

*compulsory module

Combined Studies (Mental Health and Social Care) Modules

  • Evidence Based Practice* (30 credits)
  • Module Options: Select 90 credits from the portfolio of mental health modules

Mental Health Services for Older People Modules

  • Evidence Based Practice* (30 credits)
  • Module Options: Select compulsory 90 credits
  • Older Adults and Mental Health Needs/Dementia* (30 credits)
  • Recovery Values and Principles* (30 credits)
  • Working with Behaviour that Challenges* (30 credits)

Psychosocial Practice Modules

  • Evidence Based Practice* (30 credits)
  • Module Options: Select 90 credits
  • Making sense of Voices and Paranoia* (30 credits)
  • Recovery Values and Principles* (30 credits)
  • Psychological Therapies for Voices and Paranoia (30 credits)

*compulsory module

Entry requirements

  • 120 credits at level 1 – automatically awarded to all ‘first level’ registered nurses in respect of their registration qualification (or international equivalent)
  • 120 credits at level 2 that have been completed within the past ten years – 40 level 2 credits may be awarded via Recognition of Other Learning (ROL) for current contemporary practice (or international equivalent)
  • For international students – IELTS: 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any element)
