Biography

Jan is a registered adult and children's nurse and has worked at the University since 2003. She has been a registered nurse for over 30 years and has worked in a variety of children's nursing settings.

Her teaching expertise is in supporting learning and assessment in practice at all levels. She is course director for the Post Graduate Certificate - Practice Teacher in Health and Social Care and has extensive experience in mentorship teaching, updates and support activities. Her role includes supporting new academic staff into teaching with completion of the University's PGCHE and completion of the NMC Teacher standards.

Jan is also the deputy lead for practice learning in nursing at the school - in this role she has academic responsibility for leading on practice learning teams, link lecturer co-ordination and placement audit processes as well as suporting students with their placement learning experiences.

Jan was awarded a University of Nottingham Dearing Award in 2013 and again in 2017 for 'excellence in teaching and learning' and in 2014 achieved Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. She achieved her Doctorate in Education in 2017 researching mentorship and assessment of student nurses in practice placements.
