RAE Results
The Department of History has a lively research culture, whose quality was recognised in the outcome of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise of British universities. At that time 45 percent of our research activity was said to be ‘recognised internationally’, a further 35 percent was deemed ‘internationally excellent’ and another 15 percent was described as ‘world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour.’
Central to our RAE performance is the work of the academic staff, almost all of whom are internationally recognised scholars in their respective fields. Every member of the School's staff is active in research, and their work is widely disseminated by major academic publishers and journals, as well as at conferences.
Our good result in 2008 also derived from our research environments reflected in our research seminar programme, the hosting of conferences, the award of prestigious grants to members of staff and our community of doctoral students.
