Two University of Nottingham undergraduate law students with a passion for human rights, Iga Wojtasik and Caroline Armstrong,  have been appointed Student Officers for the Mental Disability Advocacy Centre (MDAC). Their role is to promote and to disseminate the work of MDAC, with the main aim to increase the awareness of the human rights issues and violations involved.

On 2 April, the Mental Disability Advocacy Centre published a report entitled, The Right to Legal Capacity in Kenya. The report gives a voice for the first time to people with mental disabilities themselves. It outlines the need for substantial legal and social reform and provides comprehensive recommendations to bring Kenya in line with international law, and specifically with the right to legal capacity guaranteed by Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
