Head of Forced Migration and Human Rights Unit presents research to CEDAW Committee in New York

13 July 2009

Alice Edwards, Lecturer in Law and Head of the Forced Migration and Human Rights Unit within the Human Rights Law Centre, heads to the United Nations in New York this week to present her background paper to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.

Her background paper was prepared for a joint seminar between the Committee and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to be held 16-17 July 2009, in order to consider the application of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women to displaced and stateless women and girls. The background paper is entitled: 'Displacement, Statelessness, and Questions of Gender Equality under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women'.

The Executive Summary of the background paper is now available in our 'Publications' section.

French and Spanish versions of the Executive Summary will be available shortly, as will a final version of the background paper.
