Training on Human Rights Monitoring for OSCE Bosnia

Project Summary

Two-weeks of training workshops for the OSCE staff in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The training included three separate courses: a course on monitoring economic, social and cultural rights, a course on fair trial standards under international law, and a further course on human rights approaches to education monitoring. All of the courses were designed to develop the monitoring skills of participants utilising a range of interactive exercises with an emphasis placed on discussions and group work. Training Course on Ratification and Implementation of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the Asia-Pacific Region

Project Summary

The third in a series of training and capacity building programmes on ratification and implementation of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court provided training to 25 government officials and lawyers in the Asia Pacific region. Held in Kuala Lumpur, over six days, the training programme considered a range of legal issues that national practitioners will face in connection with the ratification and national implementation of the Rome Statute, including advanced introductions to the operations and functions of the ICC system.

Iraq ‘Training’ the Trainers Manual (Phase III)

Project Summary

The project formed part of a three year training and capacity building programme (2003-2006) with the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights (MoHR). Concurrently with the development of a ‘Training the Trainers’ course, HRLC developed a Human Rights Manual for ongoing use by officials at the MoHR. The manual represents a key tool which addresses the basic principles of international human rights law and key aspects of the responsibility to implement Iraq's human rights obligations. It equipped government officials with the tools for the process of human rights national planning as well as the tools to address Iraq's reporting obligations under human rights treaties. The manual is available in both Arabic and English. Funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

‘Training the Trainers’ Capacity Building Course (Phase II)

Project Summary

As part of a three year training and capacity building programme (2003-2006) with the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights, HRLC devised and conducted a capacity building course that focused on developing training skills which would enable participants to train others in human rights standards. Topics covered included different training and facilitation methodologies, human rights skills such as monitoring, and local and national methods for implementing human rights obligations. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
