Penelope

Penelope has malignant melanoma. The primary cancer was surgically removed several years ago with a good hope of cure. However, because of invisible microscopic spread, the cancer has returned twice and has been removed again. However, it is likely the cancer will recur and further surgery may not be possible. Penelope has volunteered to take part in our DNA-vaccine trial and is receiving regular injections. The aim is to boost the immune system to target and kill the microscopic melanoma cancer cells.

Penelope says,

After the initial devastation of being told my cancer had spread, I decided to take charge of my possibly brief future. I took the opportunity to take part in this research programme which I hope will help me and I am certain will help future generations.
