Admissions Pathway and Bursaries

The issue

Learners from less advantaged backgrounds are less likely to achieve high grades and to be successful in interviews. This makes it harder for them to progress to selective universities like The University of Nottingham. Financial constraints might also influence their choices.

Our solution

The Nottingham Potential targeted admissions pathway supports students from less advantaged backgrounds to apply to university. Students will receive tailored advice and support from the outset of the application process. Successful applicants will receive ongoing support in their transition to the University, including one-to-one advice on financial matters and an additional bursary.

Our impact

Our additional support for students during application and transition to our University will help Nottingham Potential to deliver a step-change in the number of students from less advantaged backgrounds studying here.

The proportion of UK students from low-income backgrounds enrolled at The University of Nottingham has risen from 17% in 2004 to 23% in 2010.
