Module Information

How do I choose modules?

The Module Catalogue is available online. All students are advised to read the information regarding choosing modules (pdf).

How many modules should I study?

  • Incoming students are expected to take 60 Nottingham credits per semester or 120 Nottingham credits per academic year, which is the normal credit load for all undergraduate students.
  • In certain circumstances, with the written approval of your home institution, a student may be entitled to take fewer than 60 Nottingham credits per semester.
  • All study abroad and exchange students must take the minimum of 50 credits per semester in order to be classified as a full-time student. Written approval must accompany your initial application.
  • European students may find it useful to know that 60 Nottingham credits are approximately equivalent to 30 ECTS.

School of the Built Environment
All students who wish to study Architecture in the School of the Built Environment must submit a portfolio of their work to date together with their application to the International Office. The portfolio should be sent on CD and should show a sample of your best design work - preferably including your most recent work. If possible the School would also like to see a sample of your more technical work (structures and construction, environmental design) as these are generally integrated into the design studio. The School will approve all applications based on the portfolio.

Students can take modules from years 2, 3 and 5 only. For years 2 and 5, students may apply for one semester only (either Autumn or Spring) or for the full year (September-June). Students wishing to enter into the 3rd year programme must come for the full year (September-June) and must follow the prescribed 3rd year programme. For further information on the School of the Built Environment please visit their website. Please note that all applications and portfolios should be sent to the International Office as normal.
