Changes to Integrated CAS Certificates - June 2012

Please note the below information applies primarily to unconditional offer holders wishing to take a pre-sessional English language course.

From 1 June 2012, The University of Nottingham has taken the decision to simplify the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issuing process by issuing single CAS certificates for single courses. The process of offering some integrated CASs and some stand alone CASs was causing confusion amongst offer holders and was resulting in delays to CAS issuing. In order to avoid delays during peak visa applications periods over the summer, we have therefore taken the decision to only offer CAS certificates for individual courses (i.e. one course = one CAS).

For any eligible students already in our system prior to 1 June 2012 integrated CASs were honoured. Any students entering the CAS system from 1 June onwards will be issued with single CAS certificates for each of the courses they intend to study at The University of Nottingham.

We are making considerable efforts to ensure this causes minimal disruption to offer holders – please note particularly that:
1. For any unconditional offer holders taking the four week pre-sessional Centre for English Language Education (CELE) course, they should still only require just one CAS as the CAS for their main academic programme allows the visa to be issued up to one month before the start of the course (and therefore allows sufficient time for students to attend the Nottingham four week CELE course, commencing 28 August 2012)
2. For students taking a longer pre-sessional course, the International Office will be able to help them to extend their visa from within the UK at the end of the course. We support CELE students every year with fast turnarounds on visa advice and re-application support (including one-to-one counselling sessions and presentations specifically about visa extension processes), to ensure progression from CELE to our academic programmes is as simple as possible.

If you have any questions about visa extensions within the UK, once you’re already studying at Nottingham, please contact staff in our International Support Services Team on international-support@nottingham.ac.uk. If you have specific questions about CELE pre-sessional courses, please email CELE directly on cele-enquiries@nottingham.ac.uk

Alternatively, if you’d like to talk to the International Officer responsible for students from your country, please visit our country contacts pages and feel free to get in touch.
