Entry requirements

Academic requirements

Below is an approximate guide to entry requirements for students from Iraq for admission to The University of Nottingham at the following levels.

Foundation  

For entry to our foundation programmes we require Iraqi students to have completed the General Secondary School Certificate with an overall grade of 75%, with 75% in specific subjects depending on the course applied for.

Undergraduate   

Normally applicants from Iraq would be required to successfully complete a foundation programme, although applicants who have completed one or two years of higher education study in Iraq may be considered for Year One entry.

Students taking A levels or the IB should refer to the online undergraduate prospectus for entry requirements.

Students taking APs or SATIIs should refer to entry requirements for the USA.

Masters

For entry to most of our masters programmes we require an overall percentage of 65% from a recognised Iraqi university (though we do accept grades in the region of 60% from students who have studied Medicine).

PhD & research

For entry to PhD programmes we require a bachelors degree with an overall grade of 65% (60% for medical graduates), plus a good masters degree from a recognised university.

For all research degrees, we recommend that you make initial enquiries with a potential supervisor or the relevant University of Nottingham school / department before applying.  A research proposal is required when submitting your application.

English language requirements

To study at Nottingham, you will need to demonstrate a required level of English language proficiency. In addition to the more common language qualifications - such as IELTS, TOEFL, (I)GCSE, O level, IB and A and AS level English - the University also considers a number of other English language qualifications for admission.

English language courses

Our Centre for English Language Education (CELE) offers a range of English language courses.

These courses are designed to prepare international students with the required language skills for academic study at The University of Nottingham.
