University registration
All new students are required to formally register with the University. If you don't formally register you will not be recognised as a student of the University.
All students should register online first (through the applicants' portal). New full-time students must also register in person before their registration with the University can be confirmed. Further information about how to do this is given in the questions and answers on this page and in the video link below.
The process is the same for Study Abroad and Exchange students, who should register online prior to arrival in Nottingham. Registration in person is also required - this means attending the orientation meeting held at the start of the semester. Students who arrive late should visit the International Office on arrival in order to register in person. Information about module selection can be found in the Studying at Nottingham section.
New students who are beginning their studies during the academic year should receive a copy of the Welcome Guide which includes information on university registration.

What is registration?
Before you begin your course for the first time and again at the start of new academic year you have to register with the University. Your status as a student at The University of Nottingham is only confirmed once you are registered.
How do I register with the University?
All students have to register through the online portal. You will be sent a temporary user name to access this. Online registration is available three weeks before the course starts.
In addition to registering online, all new full time students must confirm their attendance in person when they get to Nottingham.
Most students do this at an event during the first week of term. Students who start during term time should contact their school or the Student Services Centre for details of where to confirm their attendance in person.
What happens if I don't register?
If you don't register you may be charged a late registration fee and you will not have access to the University teaching and learning facilities and support services for students.
Are there any deadlines?
You have to complete registration within two weeks of your course start date.
What are the benefits of being registered as a student?
When you are a registered student you have access to our learning and teaching facilities and support services for students.
What are the responsibilities of being a registered student?
When you agree to our conditions of registration, you are agreeing to act as a responsible member of the University community. This means attending your lectures and seminars, handing your assessments in and paying your fees on time and being considerate to other students, staff, visitors and people who live locally.
