The University runs a free Welcome Programme and coach pick-up service for new international students (from outside the EU) joining The University of Nottingham in September every year.
The programme takes place immediately before the start of each academic year and is an excellent opportunity to meet staff and students at the University and get to know the campus. You will also have the chance to complete some practical formalities, such as opening a bank account and registering with the National Health Service (NHS) with the help of International Office staff.
As well as academic activities and practical advice sessions, the Welcome Programme also includes social events – making it a great time to make new friends before lectures start.
The September Welcome Programme takes place the week before the start of term. This free, residential programme for new International Students is a fun week of practical and social events. In 2012, the programme will run from Tuesday 18 September to Saturday 22 September. The University also offers a special program for students transferring from our overseas campuses. (Please see information for UNMC and UNNC students opposite.)
Applications for the Welcome Programme and the coach pick-up service can be made online from 1st July each year. Please note you will need to make separate applications for the Welcome Programme and the coach pick-up.
In addition to the September Welcome Programme, there is a January Welcome Event for Exchange and Study Abroad students. A tailored programme of events is provided and there is a coach pick-up service for new international students joining for the second semester. Students will be contacted directly by the Study Abroad Team with details prior to arrival.
University accommodation, including bed and breakfast, is provided free of charge as part of the Welcome Programme. You will move in to your term time/permanent accommodation on the morning of Saturday 22 September 2012. For some students this may be before official accommodation contracts start. If this is the case, you may be charged a small amount for the extra night.
Please note: University accommodation can only be provided for students during the programme; we are unable to accommodate friends or relatives on campus.
International students studying at one of our overseas campuses and coming to the UK to continue their current course (rather than to start a new course) are considered existing students rather than new students.
Special arrangements are made to prepare such students for arrival in the UK prior to departure and also to welcome students to the UK campus. In 2012, the Welcome Programme for UNMC and UNNC students will run from Thursday 20 September to Saturday 22 September.
A designated coach pick-up service is also arranged for UNMC and UNNC students on Thursday 20 September. Free accommodation on campus is provided for two nights.
