Welcome and transition

When you first arrive in the UK you will have many things to think about. As well as the practicalities of travelling to Nottingham, you will be:

  • embarking on a new life in a different country
  • adjusting to life as a University of Nottingham student
Welcome

Transition

During your first few days and weeks you will be busy:

  • meeting new people
  • exploring the local area
  • starting your course

There will also be practical arrangements to take care of such as:

Please remember that you will not be on your own during this time. There are members of staff at the University here to help you settle in and we offer Welcome Events to make the transition smoother for you.

If you have any questions about living in the UK, staff in the International Office are here to help.

Welcome Programme

To help in your transition and adjustment to UK and University life, The University of Nottingham runs a Welcome Programme for new international students in September every year.

The Welcome Programme takes place the week before the start of term. This free, residential programme for new international students is a fun week of practical and social events.

Coach pick-up service

We also offer a free coach pick-up service from London Heathrow Airport direct to the University for students attending the Welcome Programme. Places on the coach can be reserved for up to two family members at a cost of £20 per person.

Resources

There are also plenty of resources available to help you adjust to life in a new culture.  One of our key reference tools is the International and EU Students' A-Z Guide to Nottingham which we issue to all new students.

You will also find useful information in our Preparation and arrival webpages.
