You may wish to take on part-time work to meet new friends and earn extra money while you are studying in the UK. However, as an international or EU student there are some rules and regulations to be aware of.
Regulations for working in the UK can often vary depending on what country you are from.
For further information on working in the UK please see our financial advice pages.
Depending on the level of the course you are studying, international students from outside the EU who hold a Tier 4 Student Visa can normally work up to 20 hours per week during term-time. Students studying a course below degree level can normally work up to 10 hours per week during term-time.
Students holding Student Visitor Visas are not able to work in the UK.
If you are a national of Bulgaria or Romania, it is likely you will have to register in a similar way for something called the Worker Authorisation Scheme.
In some cases, students can stay in the UK after completing a degree course and take on paid employment.
