Copyright
Copyright exists in the many varied sources and publications used by staff and students. It is good academic practice to comply with the law of copyright. Failure to do so could lead to individual or institutional liability for infringements of copyright.
Why should I be bothered about copyright issues?
University Regulations and policies place responsibility on both students and staff to comply with copyright and other relevant laws. These include:
Copyright information for students
The Student Guide to Copyright contains more information for students in all modes of study.
A brief guide to how copyright affects photocopying, scanning from journals and digitising music is also available.
Copyright information for staff
The Staff Guide to Copyright contains information about copyright issues in research and teaching.
The University holds a number of licences that allow copying (under certain conditions) for educational use.
The Staff Guide to Copyright Licences explains the terms of these licences. For further information about copying or scanning, please contact the IS Copyright Officer.
Staff who wish to scan articles from printed publications, for example to deliver via WebCT, cannot do so unless this is done under the CLA Scanning Licence.
