Software
All software available to you can be found in The University of Nottingham Software Library [University of Nottingham access only]. Here you will find an A-Z listing and you can also search for specific software. Each software package has additional information including user guide, training and availability.
IS Computer Rooms use core University software, which are listed in Desktop Standards.
Students at The University of Nottingham can also purchase a range of Microsoft software, including Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010, at a reduced rate from The Ultimate Steal website.
Accessing the Software
There are several ways in which software can be delivered to your desktop but the most popular is Microsoft App-V. App-V allows you to run software on your Windows machine without the need to install the software, using the latest virtualisation technology.
You can request access to an App-V software application in the Software Library [University of Nottingham access only]. If the software you are requesting access to is an application with a specific license requirement then the request will be sent to your local IT Support Team for verification.
If the software application is accessible to all University employees you will be able use the software immediately.
You can also download an application direct from the Software Library for manual install.
If these methods are not applicable to your chosen software, please e-mail the IT Helpline with details of your request.
Making Software applications available for all students
If you have software that needs to be made available for student use in IS computer rooms, you should visit the Software Library [University of Nottingham access only] and use the Software Request Wizard.
You can request additions/changes and removal of App-V software which is available in all IS computer rooms and also request alterations to software information presented in the Software Library.
By completing the forms in the Software Library, a request will be sent to your local IT Support Team, who will contact you to arrange access to the software and make it available for use via App-V or other methods.
