Windows 7

New PCs will be supplied with the new operating system already installed in preparation for the ending of Microsoft support for XP in April 2014.
New to Windows 7 and Office 2010?
We have prepared a useful guide to show you how to get the most from the new system. Download Using new features in Windows 7 (PDF) to learn more.
Roadshows
Throughout June and July 2011, a series of roadshow presentations about Windows 7 took place across all campuses. If you were unable to attend one of these roadshows, a video presentation is available.
You can also read a transcript of the video presentation.
Staff
I am still using Windows XP. How do I get Windows 7?
Current users can register their interest for an upgrade to Windows 7 with Office 2010 through their local IT Support team and requests will be accommodated in line with other priorities.
How will this affect my teaching applications?
Most applications will work without problem on Windows 7, but it may be necessary to upgrade current versions of applications and course materials.
Compatibility issues
Information about known compatibility issues and applications and systems that have yet to be fully tested with Windows 7.
Please note, older versions of some software packages may not be supported on Windows 7. The compatibility list on this page assumes that the the current version of applications are currently in use. For example, EndNote X3 is not fully compatible with Windows 7 but EndNote X4 is, so it is not listed here.
Please contact your local IT Support team if you:
-
are currently using older versions of software packages and are unsure of compatibility
-
know of an application or system that is incompatible
-
want to make sure a specific application has been tested
