Connecting Windows Vista to UoN-secure wireless
You can connect Windows Vista to the UoN-secure wireless service:

click Start > Control panel > Network and Internet

click on Connect to a Network. This will display all available networks

click on Set up a connection or network

select Manually connect to a wireless network and click Next

to connect to a wireless network, choose a Wireless Adapter Connection and click Next

enter the following:

UoN-secure
|
|
Security type
|
WPA2-Enterprise
|
|
Encryption type
|
AES
|

select Start this connection automatically and click Next

select Change Connection settings. The UoN-secure Wireless Network properties box appears

on the Connections tab , untick Connect to a more preferred network and select Connect automatically when this network is in range

on the Security tab , ensure the following settings are in place:

WPA2-Enterprise

Encyrption type
|
AES
|
|
Network authentication method
|
Protected EAP (PEAP)

tick Cache user information for subsequent connection to this network

click the Settings button. Untick Validate server certificate. Select Enable Fast Reconnect

click on Configure . The EAP MSCHAPv2 properties box will appear. Untick this box

click OK and close all remaining windows
-
a window will appear near the task bar at the bottom of your screen. Enter your University username and password then click OK
You are now setup for UoN-secure. In future, enter your University username and password every time you want to connect.
Help and support
If your laptop does not automatically connect go to Network and internet > Network and Sharing Centre > Manage wireless networks and ensure that UoN-secure is at the top of the Available wireless networks list. You may need to go into the properties of other available networks and ensure that all boxes are unticked.
