RCSENG advice for SHOs

The Royal College of Suregeons of England has published Modernising Medical Careers and Getting into Higher Surgical Training: Advice for surgical trainees looking for an SpR training number This document is periodically updated on an ad hoc basis, as the process of Modernising Medical Careers is fluid and not fixed. The object of this document is to inform trainees of the changes to training currentlybeing implemented as part of the government initiative Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) and to offer guidance and hope to those who want to continue with a career in surgery but have not yet obtained a training number for higher specialist training.

PMETB - Principles of surgical training

The Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) have published Principles for Surgical Training. The principles provide a common approach to surgical specialty training. Their implementation will help ensure the successful transition to new specialty training programmes due in August 2007.

RCN publishes Core Career and Competency Framework

The RCN has produced new guidelines that help nurses to identify and plan their career development and at the same time link it to their specialist area of work. The Core Career and Competence Framework shows how the National Health Service (NHS) Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) applies to different career stages in nursing. The guidelines will also help nurses to meet the expected levels for career progression within the remit of Agenda for Change, and to identify the knowledge and skills that need to be applied specifically to practice areas.
