SCONUL Access Scheme

From 1st August 2007 SCONUL Research Extra and UK Libraries Plus (UKLP) schemes merged to form SCONUL Access. The amalgamation of the schemes will improve access and simplify registration procedures.
The Sconul Access scheme is available to staff; researchers; part–time, distance learning and placement students and to full-time taught postgraduates, allowing them to borrow from other libraries in the scheme. Further information on the new arrangements from 1st August, and generally further details and application forms are available from lending desks or from the SCONUL website.

SCONUL: Vacation Access Scheme

For undergraduates and taught course postgraduates in vacations.
NB Reading only, not borrowing.
In University of Nottingham vacations undergraduates and taught course postgraduates are offered access to books and journals on open shelves. Borrowing privileges and access to electronic sources of information are not included in the scheme.
Identification required - valid student ID card from home institution.

If you have an existing UK Libraries Plus or SCONUL membership card which has an expiry date after 1 August 2007, it will continue to be eligible for access to use libraries - including the University of Nottingham Library Services - in accordance with the terms of the scheme.

Academic, academic-related and research staff and research postgraduates of other Higher Education institutions are offered access to most printed materials and archives. Borrowing privileges and access to electronic sources of information are not included in the scheme.

Advance notice is essential for consultation of Manuscripts and Special Collections material.

INSPIRE

Members of the public aged 16 and over, presenting an appropriate referral letter and proof of ID through the Inspire scheme may access the collections at any time the libraries are open excluding the months of January, May and June. Details of libraries and their opening times are at:

Individuals referred through Inspire (usually via their local public library) may have reference access to paper based materials.

The Walk-in user pilot project

Manuscripts and Special Collections

Access is by prior appointment to the Manuscripts and Special Collections section which is situated at Kings Meadow Campus, Lenton Lane, Nottingham. Please note that for various reasons concerning terms of acquisition, physical condition or catalogue status, access to some material within the Manuscripts and Special Collections section may be restricted. The British Library
Staff and students may also wish to apply for a pass to visit the British Library's reading rooms in the St Pancras Library in London, or at Boston Spa in Yorkshire. Please note the identification you will need and the Library's Conditions of use via the related links provided above. You may find the British Library's Integrated Catalogue useful.

Public libraries may also be useful sources of material and information.
