IT representatives

The IT representative is a designated member of staff in each School/Department/business unit who acts as the main point of contact with Information Services (IS) on day-to-day IT matters and strategic policy and direction.

Their role includes the following:

• representing the School/Department/business unit 

• acting on behalf of the Head of School/Department/business unit in relation to IT matters

• liaising with IS over relevant strategy/technical issues 

• providing advice to colleagues about IS IT services, and about University IT policies, developments and strategy. This will be by working in partnership with the IS IT Support Team Leader 

• disseminating information on IT services from IS to School/Department/business unit colleagues 

• may be asked to represent the School at the Faculty IT User Group (FITUG) 

• assisting IS with handling of IT misconduct cases in relation to their School/Department/business unit

• liaising with IS about security of School/Department/business unit IT systems 

• ensuring that Code of Practice forms for staff in the School/Department/business unit are signed and stored appropriately

• supporting users of the services

While the following duties remain the overall responsibility of the IT Representative, in practice they may be delegated to the IT Support Team or devolved to other colleagues in the School/Department/business unit.

• ensuring that the user registration database has appropriate details about new members of staff (including telephone extension numbers)

• authorising and allocating usernames for School/Department/business unit staff and non-taught course students

• assuming delegated authority to certify requests for access to University IT facilities from associates  

• the IT Support Team may, in consultation with the IT Representative, have the operational duty for creating accounts on particular systems for School/Department/business unit staff and non-taught course students; however the IT Representative will retain the responsibility for authorising this task

• authorising the deletion of accounts of colleagues who have left

Adding or removing IT reps

If you wish to be removed from the list, email the same address, but please note we require a replacement name as it is important we are able to notify your area of important information regarding downtime and system outages.
