Identity and Access Management
The University of Nottingham is developing its Identity and Access Management (IAM) service which includes policies and procedures to provide University members with easier and more consistent access to the IT services they need.
The IAM polices and procedures underpin the IAM strategy [The University of Nottingham access only] which plays a major role in supporting the information and technology needs of staff, students and associates of the University.
The Identity and Access Management programme is included in the Information Services Connected Campus initiative and underpins the core main services for the University. These incude: usernames; email; network storage; Workspace, Shibboleth e-resources; WebCT; and the Intranet Portal.
The IAM service provides an individual with a username to efficiently access the services they are entitled to use.
Three categories of usernames are provided:
Information, including documentation and instructions, is provided for members of IT Support and the Helpdesk.
Access management and disability
Access management arrangements must comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (2001). In particular, "institutions have a duty to pass on information appropriately to ensure reasonable adjustments can be made for students following disclosure of a disability".
For users who disclose a disability, information "to ensure reasonable adjustments" is provided, via the system, to IS front line staff so that they are alerted to any adjustments needed.
