IWHO's Jonathan Houdmont and PhD student Paul Madgwick awarded £40,000 in funding

Jonathan Houdmont and his PhD student Paul Madgwick have been awarded funding from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. The £40,000 grant concerns the development and evaluation of a sun safety intervention to encourage construction workers in the UK to adopt sun safety measures when working outdoors. The majority of cases of skin cancer caused by sun exposure at work in the UK are within the construction sector and previous work by Paul and Jonathan has shown that construction workers who have received sun safety training are more likely to use sun safety measures when working outdoors. The current study will involve the longitudinal outcome and process evaluation of a video-based intervention designed specifically for the sector and endorsed by the Health and Safety Executive.  Before starting his PhD at IWHO, Paul was a student on the MSc in Workplace Health & Wellbeing (distance learning) and graduated in 2010.
