The Institute is dedicated to postgraduate education. It provides a stimulating environment for professional courses in applied psychology and related areas to Diploma, Masters and Doctoral levels. Some of its courses are offered as post qualification specialisms. The Institute was awarded 24/24 in the last external teaching quality assessment with a commendation for teaching. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise 95% of its research was rated as 'international', with 70% being 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'. On a measure of 'research power', its research performance ranked 6th in the UK. Its academic staff apply a scientific, scholarly yet practical approach to the study of people and the contexts and systems in which they live and work. Their approach often involves evidence-based problem solving and their commitment is to ‘making a difference’. The Institute’s research drives its teaching while its teaching makes sense of and challenges that research. This intimate relationship between teaching and research guarantees innovative postgraduate courses that aim to equip students with up-to-date knowledge and skills to optimise the health and performance of people and the healthiness of their communities and organisations.
