Other Routes

Most overseas workers gain eligibility to work at The University of Nottingham through the Tier 2 (Sponsored Skilled Worker) route.  However, there may be other routes available to you, such as the Tier 1 (Highly Skilled Worker) and Tier 1 (Post-Study Worker) routes, or the Tier 5 Sponsored Researcher ‘Government Authorised Exchange’ route.

Tier 1 (Highly Skilled Worker)

The highly skilled worker category is designed to allow highly skilled people to come to the United Kingdom to look for work or self-employment opportunities. If eligible, you will need to apply for this directly – see the UK Border Agency website , which explains the requirements for applying under Tier 1 (General) of the points-based system. You do not need to have a specific job offer, but will need to demonstrate you are highly skilled, have money to support yourself and are able to speak English.

Tier 1 (Post-Study Worker)

If you have graduated from a university in the UK, you can apply to stay in the UK to work once you have completed your studies.  If you are eligible, you will need to apply for this directly – see the UK Border Agency website , which explains how you can come to the UK or remain here as a post-study worker (Tier 1 Post-study work) under the points-based system.

Student Visa

If you want to work in the UK whilst studying and you have a valid Student Visa, see the University's "Pathway 2 Nottingham" web pages for further information.
