Lynda’s story
I’ve worked there for 15 years, and I still love every day. I start at 8am and cook the children’s breakfast, then there’s the mid-morning snack which is usually fruit and veg, then they have a two course lunch, a snack in the afternoon, and then their evening meal. After that I ‘prep’ for the next day. So as you can see, I may be cooking for children – but it’s just as demanding as cooking for adults.
It’s something new and unique each day, so I never get bored because as the older children move on, new children join … and they all bring with them different requirements. So I prepare a vegetarian menu, main menu, baby’s menu, and an allergies menu.
Obviously the best thing about my job is the children. They are all so lovely, and they make your job worthwhile. They are the most demanding and lovely customers and are very honest about the food I make for them. Even the babies, they talk to you in their own little way. I really like the fact that they don’t call me Lynda or Miss or anything like that … they call me Cooker or Toaster because that is what I am to them.
