  • Why are childhood accidents and injuries important? 

    Q How common are accidents in children?

    • On average, one child in six is taken to hospital after an accident each year

    injuries

    • Every year in the UK about 480,000 children under 5 years of age have to go to hospital following an accident at home

    Q How many children have to stay in hospital due to an injury?

    • 39,123 children under the age of 5 were admitten to hospital in England due to an injury over a 12 month period 2012-13. Most of these were due to accidents at home
