A One-Stop-Language-Shop for 14 languages
As part of its e-learning strategy, the School of Modern Languages embarked on an ambitious programme: a platform that will provide multimodal language learning materials for all students registered in the School.
The One-Stop-Language-Shop (OSLS) represents a drastic cultural change, where within a time frame of two years, we will have gone from hardly any consistent e-learning to a central point that gives students access to language learning materials across 14 languages and several levels of competence.
The project is centred around an ideal constellation: the staff involved include a dedicated e-learning developer, a project coordinator providing the link between teaching staff and technical staff, at least one subject matter expert for each language, plus dedicated graphics support to package the OSLS in an appealing way.
The project team carried out a student survey before the start of the project to identify needs, expectations and perceptions regarding e-learning and the findings have informed the project development. The students continue to be actively involved in the development of exercise types, as the subject matter experts identified a test group for each language to test the materials.
