In 2005 a report was compiled about the Self Access Centre, which is located within the Language Centre on C floor of the Trent Building. It took into consideration the facilities, the views of students using the Self Access Centre, the opinions of staff and the use of Self Access Centres as a means of promoting self study and independent language learning. This report provided the basis for a successful HEFCE bid which secured £110,000 of CAP4 monies (2006-8) and will allow our Self Access Centre to undergo major refurbishment in the summer of 2007.
The new Centre includes an improved layout to accommodate more students, the re-organisation of materials and the updating of equipment for the technical staff. Extensive building work was carried out to provide a more comfortable environment for technicians and to house new equipment. The Self Access Centre was also completely redecorated and now has new fittings and furniture to give it a lighter, brighter and more inviting feel.
