On 31 July 2012, Professor Estelle Derclaye presented a paper entitled "What can intellectual property law learn from happiness research?" at the annual ATRIP congress in Chicago. ATRIP is the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property. More than 110 IP scholars and teachers from some 35 countries attended the 31st ATRIP annual Congress whose theme was Intellectual Property: Methods and Perspectives.
