1. Congratulations are due to Tom West, who is this year’s recipient of the Simon Ball Prize, awarded by the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA) for his work (both academic and practical) on Environmental Justice. Tom is currently registered for an AHRC–sponsored Ph.D. project here in the School of Law, and is the first of our MSc Law and Environmental Science graduates to embark on such a programme with us.
2. Congratulations also to Tilman Dralle, who was awarded the Treaty Centre’s own prize of £150 for the outstanding performance in the LLM/MSc module in the International Law of Treaties. Competition was extremely tight this year, and special commendation should also go to Atka Al-Barwani and Christina Aloupa, whose excellent performances might well have merited the prize in another year.
Within the Law of Treaties unit, preparations are well under way for the September Workshop organised by Dino Kritsiotis and Michael Bowman in connection with the research project Conceptual and Contextual Perspectives on the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, to be held here in Nottingham. Within the Environmental Law Unit, a team of contributors for the planned research handbook on biodiversity law is currently being assembled by Michael Bowman, Peter Davies and Edward Goodwin.
