Class of 2008/09
I was working as a lawyer and also assisted University students with tutorials in various law subjects before coming to Nottingham. I had heard about the University of Nottingham from my former lecturer (an alumnus) while at Makerere University. I researched more about the Law courses that were available within the Faculty and found that I could choose from a number of options and thus make up my own combination of modules for the specialisation in International Law. The funding opportunities from the Commonwealth Association and the student atmosphere of Nottingham made it an appealing choice.
I believe the course offered me the opportunity to develop my analytical skills and also to critically think about the role of law with respect to world issues ranging from politics, economic and social rights and development issues.
After attaining my LLM, I returned to my home country and was elevated to the position of Lecturer. I had applied for a PhD position with the International Centre for Development and Decent Work (graduate school), University of Kassel, Germany to undertake an interdisciplinary socio-legal study linking migration to development which is what I am doing now. I believe studying at Nottingham prepared me for this.
