UK/Canada
Class of 2005/06
Prior to enrolling in the University of Nottingham's LLM programme, I had just completed a two year MA at the University of Ottawa in the School of Political Studies.
Over the course of my MA, which had focussed on international criminal justice's place in the realm of international relations, I had developed a keen interest in international criminal law. The University of Nottingham's LLM programme had an excellent reputation, and seemed perfectly tailored to my interests.
The course was taught by a collection of engaging and highly talented professors from whom I benefitted immensely. My fellow students, too, did a great deal to enrich my academic experience.
The course offered me an opportunity to learn international law from first rate professors in the company of students from all over the world.
Along with several of my course-mates, I went to The Hague immediately after completing my LLM. There, I undertook two internships, one with the Coalition for the International Criminal Court's Legal Section, and another with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia's (ICTY) Trial Chamber II. In May 2007, I began working as a drafter/researcher for a defence team in the Gotovina et al. proceedings before the ICTY.
In September of this year, closing argument arguments having been made in Gotovina et al, I returned to Canada to begin the LLB/BCL programme at McGill University, in Montreal.
In all of my endeavours, I have been well served by the education I received at the University of Nottingham, and the invaluable set of contacts I generated while there.
