Recent Publications

Dr Fairclough's teaching interests are in general Immunology. She lectures to a variety of students (MSc and MNurSci). In addition to the lectures, Dr Fairclough welcomes both MSc and BMedSci students into her group each year to work on their research projects. These are related to Dr Fairclough's research interest. Dr Fairclough also has several PhD students working in her group examining the immunology of irreversible lung disease. Some of these projects are related to developing technologies to aid in biomarker identification of these diseases.

Dr Fairclough lectures on theFollowing modules:

  • C93IIS - Immunity and the Immune System
  • IMM - Introduction to Medical Microbiology
  • MO4MOL - Research Project - Immunology and Allergy
  • C9DTHI - Therapeutic Immunology
  • A14SM1 - Biological Foundations in Health

Current Research

My research interest is the immunology of irreversible lung diseases. The features of the inflammatory response and the mediators responsible for these diseases, typified by Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), are less well defined than those of reversible lung disease, such as asthma.

Past Research

For eight years my research interest related to understanding the mechanisms that cause allergic reactions, specifically investigating the immunomodulatory effects of the proteolytic activity of the house dust mite allergen Der p 1.
