Catalogue conversion (Printed Books)
Many of the catalogue records which describe published works within the Special Collections are only available in manual form. In most cases this means card catalogues.
The task of converting records to electronic form, for access via the library's online catalogue, began some years ago but will take many years to complete. It is taken forward in three ways; first by special projects for particular collections; secondly, through collaborative projects with other institutions; and thirdly through ongoing work by our own cataloguers.
The second category, funded largely through the RSLP (Research Support Libraries Programme), has enabled substantial progress to be made in certain specific subject areas. In particular, titles relating to theology and religious texts, which were the subject of the RSLP Revelation programme, are now almost entirely available through the online catalogue.
Work will continue on other retrospective conversion projects as opportunity and resources allow.
