John Lowe was the eldest son of Vincent Lowe of Denby and his wife Theodosia, daughter of John Marriott of Alscot, Gloucestershire. He purchased Locko Park from the Gilbert family in 1747.
He married Sydney, daughter of Richard Marriott of Alscot, Gloucestershire (d 1789). They had no children, so the Denby and Locko estates passed after his death to his younger brother Richard Lowe.
