Biography of Gervase Eyre (c.1547-1626)

Gervase Eyre Esq. was the son of Anthony Eyre Esq., of Newbold in Derbyshire and Kiveton in Yorkshire, and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of German Pole Esq. of Radburne, Derbyshire. He matriculated at Queens' College, Cambridge, in the Michaelmas term of 1565.

Gervase was aged 28 in 1575. His estates passed after his death to his only son Anthony Eyre. He was buried at Laughton en le Morthen, Yorkshire. 

Family

He married Mary, 4th daughter of George Nevile Esq. of Thorney, Nottinghamshire, and his wife Barbara, sister and co-heir of Sir George Hercy of Grove, Nottinghamshire, and had:

  • Anthony (b c.1576)
  • Elizabeth, m in 1595 Thomas Riccard of Hatfield, Yorkshire
  • Barbara, m John Frechville, 2nd son of Peter Frechville Esq. of Staveley, Derbyshire
  • Jane, m Sir Hardolph Wasteneys, 1st Baronet, of Headon
