My PhD was in the epidemiology of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis studying (IPF) its incidence, survival and aetiology, funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC). This work was carried out using routine databases; (THIN) The Health Improvement Network, (ONS) Office for National Statistics, and (HES) Hospital Episode Statistics, as well as recruiting incident cases of IPF and age and sex matched general population controls across England and Wales. I returned to clinical training as a chest physician as an Academic Clinical Fellow and have recently returned to the university as an NIHR Clinical Assistant Professor (ACL) in Respiratory Medicine.
