Our people

What we do

Welcome from Professor John Alcolado, Head of Division:

Medicine is an exciting, challenging and demanding career. The University of Nottingham prides itself on being at the forefront of innovation in medical education, health science research and working with NHS organisations to promote excellence in all aspects of patient care.

We deliver the Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) course which is an innovative four-year, fast-track programme designed to widen access to medical careers for graduates who come from a wide range of professional and educational backgrounds. Our teaching programme produces the finest doctors from the most diverse backgrounds.

There is an emphasis on clinical and translational research, spanning molecular mechanisms through to clinical trials. Research within the division is funded by the Biological and Biotechnological Sciences Research Council, British Heart Foundation, Health Technology Assessment, Action Medical Research, Kidney Research UK, amongst others.
