Associate Professor and Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Faculty of Student Services
Dr Najat Khalifa, MBChB, MRCPsych, DM, is an Associate Professor and Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at the University of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. His research interests are personality disorder and offending behaviour, religion and mental health, supported employment for offenders with mental disorder and use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to modulate empathy and impulsivity in offenders with mental disorder. As part of his doctoral project, he examined the nature of the relationship between conduct disorder, early-onset alcohol abuse, some other externalizing-related constructs and adult antisocial behaviour. He has published a number of academic articles on the professional practice of psychiatry, personality disorder and offending and also co-authored a book (McMurran, Khalifa & Gibbon, Forensic Mental Health, 2009. Willan Publishing).
He is the Chief Investigator of a Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial assessing the feasibility of Individual Placement and Support (IPS) in offenders with mental disorder. The project is funded under the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) funding stream (£251K).
