Biography

Veronika completed her Masters in Developmental Psychology at Utrecht University/The Netherlands in 2006 and then started her PhD research at Loughborough University. She investigated the relationship between cognitive abilities and sports performance in people with intellectual disabilities, for which she developed and tested a computerized cognitive test battery. Her postdoctoral research included studies investigating the association between cognition, well-being and use of new technologies in older people and emotion recognition patterns in people with and without cognitive impairment. Her current projects examine antihypertensive treatment in people with dementia and the development of a falls intervention programme for people with mild cognitive impairment and early stage dementia.

Veronika's research interests lie in the area of dementia, cognition, health of older people, research methods, neuropsychological assessment and psychometrics. They include learning disability, well-being and technology use of older people.

Current Research

The Promoting Activity, Independence and Stability in Early Dementia (PrAISED) research programme develops and tests a multi-component intervention to support people with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Mild Dementia to stay independent for longer. The intervention includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, motivational psychology and educational elements. The programme started in March 2016 and will continue until March 2022. Past Research

The Balance and the Mind project aims to develop an intervention to reduce the risk of falls in people with mild cognitive impairment and early stage dementia and to understand the perspectives of people with dementia and their carers about the feasibility and acceptability of falls prevention treatments.
