What we do

From Professor Alan Knox, Head of Division:

We have research programmes in obstructive lung diseases (Asthma/COPD), fibrotic lung diseases (IPF, LAM) and infective lung diseases (cystic fibrosis, pneumonia). Our research focuses on genetics, pharmacogenetics, molecular pathophysiology, translational research (including biomarkers and imaging) and clinical trials. We have a broad portfolio of research funding from MRC, BBSRC, NC3Rs, Wellcome and other charities, EU and industry.

We have close links on respiratory themes with researchers within other research groupings in Nottingham such as epidemiology, molecular microbiology, drug discovery, allergy, immunology and child health. We are part of several major national/international collaborations (eg MRCMAP COPD, NIHR TRP in inflammatory diseases and UBIOPRED IMI consortia) working closely with major academic institutions and industry. We host the National Centre for research into lymphangiolyomyomatosis (LAM).
