Expertise Summary

I am the Head Technician in the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Group at the University of Nottingham and provide the technical expertise for much of the research that is performed. I have developed a particular expertise in studies of platelet function and also in setting up and contributing to the technical aspects of clinical trials, for example those in which the effects of antiplatelet agents or dietary manipulations have an effect on platelet function.

I am the designated safety officer in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, of which the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Group forms a part.

I was a co-applicant (with Stan Heptinstall and Sue Fox) of a successful bid for a DPFS grant from the MRC to engage in development of a simple-to-use technology to assess platelet function.… read more

Current Research

I was a co-applicant (with Stan Heptinstall and Sue Fox) of a successful bid for a DPFS grant from the MRC to engage in development of a simple-to-use technology to assess platelet function. Development of kits to enable this now takes up a considerable amount of my time. The other collaborative projects to which I contribute include a study of platelet function in patients with cancer, and a study of platelet function in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. I also contribute to assessment of new antiplatelet drugs, most recently the EP3 receptor antagonist DG-041.
